Traffic Management

What is Traffic Management and what does the law say?
Traffic management is the safe and productive management of all vehicles on your site and how they interact with pedestrians and also each other.  The amount of incidents and deaths arising from forklifts working in close proximity to people is horrendous. The workplace safety authorities have a low or zero tolerance on interaction and a high expectation that the employer will control this issue systematically by developing and implementing a traffic management plan.

You have a duty to provide and maintain a safe workplace under your workplace safety legislation.

How do I know if I need a traffic management plan at my workplace?

If you have vehicles arriving and departing your workplace or have forklifts you will need to develop a plan.

Can I get help?
Yes. Incidents can be devastating to a business, its personnel, contractors, visitors, as well as vehicle and plant damage. It could be more efficient to engage an external consultant from our Business Directory to provide you with the right advice and assist with development of your traffic management plan. Often they can be quite complex. You may also need barriers, guards, traffic cones and yellow walkway lines.

Is there any free guidance material I can read on Traffic management for my workplace?
