What are the hazards?

The potential hazard is that in rare circumstances, the overheating of the battery may lead to an increased risk that individuals may be injured and/or property damaged as a result of the device reaching high temperatures or starting a fire.

What are the defects?

Garmin has identified a risk that the batteries may overheat when used in nuvi devices that contain a specific printed circuit board (PCB) design. In rare circumstances, overheating of the product's battery may lead to a fire hazard. This defect only applies to the nuvi products with the model numbers specified above.

What should consumers do?

To determine if a unit is affected, consumers should visit the Garmin website which has been set up to coordinate the recall.

Consumers will be asked to enter their nuvi's serial number into the website. If their unit has the specific PCB design and contains a battery from the specific date range, they will be given instructions on how to return their nuvi. In Australia, Garmin will replace the entire nuvi device and return the nuvi to the affected customer free of charge. If customers are unable to access the website, they may contact Garmin through one of the phone numbers below.
