WorkCover claims for bone and muscle injuries across western and south-west Victoria cost more than $55 million last financial year.

WorkSafe says the overall cost for the state was almost $1 billion.

In Ballarat claims exceeded $22 million while in Warrnambool the value was almost $8 million.

WorkSafe Trevor Martin says serious injuries happen in all types of workplaces.

"We find that the injuries occur in a range of employment situations from childcare or even office work, right through to manufacturing and perhaps areas where you expect heavier work going on, freight transport and those sorts of things," he said.
